Forget those boring, quiet shows where you need to sit still, ‘Spot’ at Glen Street Theatre isn’t one of those! It’s an interactive show where everyone gets to shout out answers and join in.
Jake is a boy who just wants his parents to read him the book ‘Spot’. As his dad reads the book, Spot, who is a fun, yellow puppy, comes to life on stage. The audience needs to help Spot find the missing farm animals. The whole story follows Spot exploring his bright, colourful storybook world alongside all his animal friends.
Even though the play is mostly made for toddlers and little children, I thought it was fun to watch because there were lots of jokes and you were always guessing which animal they needed to find next. The playful puppy puppet looked exactly like the drawings in the old books I read at preschool when I was five years old. The actors were energetic and sang catchy songs.
My absolute favourite part was when they forgot the chick. It was so funny. The audience had to find where Spot’s farmyard animals were hiding and count them into the barn. It was just like the real book as sometimes they were hiding under flaps. I liked that it taught kids that doing jobs can be fun.
The play is about 40 minutes long, which is the perfect length for kids aged 18 months to 7 years. The theatre is quite small which is great because every single seat is close to the action, and you feel like you are a part of the adventure.
I highly recommend ‘Spot’ because it keeps kids, parents and grandparents entertained with its interactive storyline, lively characters and jokes. I wish I had a pet dog like Spot.
Enjoy that?
