Local Brookvale paint manufacturer, Colormaker Industries, is celebrating seven years of solar-powered paint production since installing their 100-kW solar array at the Orchard Road facility in Brookvale.

Seven years of making a difference

This September, Colormaker Industries is celebrating an important anniversary – seven years since transitioning its Brookvale manufacturing facility to solar power.

Over that time, the locally owned and operated company has saved more than 1,000 tonnes of GHGs while continuing to manufacture its world class paints, inks and specialty coatings right here on the Northern Beaches.

This milestone is a time to celebrate sustainability, innovation and local manufacturing, recognising the role that local businesses can play in building a more sustainable future on the Northern Beaches.

Eco-friendly paints, inks and construction coatings

While solar power has become a defining part of the business, it is only one element of Colormaker’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

The business continues to expand its range of low-VOC, water-based, solvent free and plastic bead free products, reducing environmental impact while creating safer formulations for painters, contractors, screen printers, home owners and other residents.

Colormaker’s product range includes:

  • Colormaker Paving Paints for garage floors, patios, laundries and workshops
  • ACRYLMERIC® Construction Coatings – Concrete Sealer, Epoxacote floor coating & Texacote textured exterior coatings
  • ACRYLMERIC® System Membranes – WeatherTuff exterior membrane, Sportscote non-slip, trafficable membrane, Wet Area Membrane & WB Epoxy Moisture Barrier for preventing seepage penetration through walls
  • LUXAPOOL® Swimming Pool Paints for resurfacing pool interiors & pool surrounds
  • PERMACRYLIK® Scenic Paints for murals and fine art
  • PERMASET® Eco-friendly Screen-printing Inks for printing t-shirts and merchandise

Across the Brookvale facility, energy-efficient LED lighting, an EV fleet, a world-first solar storage battery, recycling programs and water reuse initiatives all contribute to reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

As a proudly Australian-owned manufacturer, Colormaker also supports community projects, schools and charitable organisations with paints and inks.

Colormaker’s sustainability journey has also earned industry recognition, receiving in 2023 the Solar Champion Award, the Northern Beaches Sustainability Award and Business NSW’s Excellence in Sustainability Award for the Sydney Metro Region. In 2025, Colormaker was a finalist in the NSW Banksia Sustainability Awards for SME Leadership. And was in the very first tranche of businesses to achieve NABERS brand new NEPI accreditation, with an impressive score of 82%.

Seven years of solar represents more than an anniversary. It reflects Colormaker’s long-term commitment, showing that innovation, manufacturing and environmental stewardship can go beautifully hand in hand.
