Bazaar Opportunity! Aladdin’s Cave For Sale

Liam CarrollBy Liam CarrollAugust 19, 20213 Mins Read

For the past 37years, Mr. Brassman and his family have brought Morocco to Mosman, the Middle East to Sydney’s Lower North, Marrakech to Awaba plateau, and Casablanca to the shores of Balmoral.

Becoming well-known by everyone who’s driven along Spit Road, Mr Brassman’s shop was Sydney’s first ever “Moroccan Bazaar”, quickly becoming a well-known landmark, with rubbernecks driving past always craning their view 90 degrees to get a glimpse of hand-woven rugs blowing in the wind, as well as the old and new polished and unpolished brass and copper, and multi-coloured wares on show.

Enticing the curious, celebrities, barristers, judges, soapie actors, movie stars and set decorators are among the thousands who’ve flocked from all over to visit this real life Aladdin’s Cave to view and buy the wonderful and unique handmade Moroccan artefacts, a dazzling selection of bejewelled treasures, Moroccan lamps, camel bags, hand-spun kilim rugs, jewellery and much, much more.

The business also conducts repair, polishing and sealing services for metal, brass, copper and silver items, having repaired and restored countless antiques over the years, as well as treasured historic items and curiosity pieces; telescopes from the 1800’s, Aladdin’s wish lamps and possibly one or two of his magic woven carpets, and polished and sealed antique telescopes and fascinating collectables. Undoubtedly, his shop has had the largest selection of hand-made brass, silver and copper artefacts most have ever seen.

Famous movies past and present, have utilised many of these embellished and ornate items as props from this store as have weddings and birthday functions. Even magazines such as Women’s Weekly have hired items whilst filming adverts and stories as have many famous cooking shows demonstrating how to use ceramics, tagines and kukus.

It’s very sad news then to report that Said (Mr. Brassman) has recently suffered a stroke, not denting his irrepressibly vivacious spirit that has been the cornerstone of his business being such a remarkable success for 37years, but combined with his dear wife Janice also battling serious health concerns, it is time for Said, Janice and the Mr Brassman family, having become so well-known throughout Sydney and beyond, always happily greeting and assisting customers, to relax into retirement and enjoy many more happy years with family and friends.

Their much-loved and treasured brass and curiosity antique collectable business, together with their shop at Spit Rd., Mosman is now up for sale by Private Treaty. If you’re interested in tinkering with artefacts and collectables into your retirement, or perhaps someone you know may want to become the next Mr Brassman (or woman!) of Mosman, call Angela or Lisette of Australian Domain Real Estate on  02 9960 1535 or 0414 554 122 to appoint a time to view and obtain further information.

“Farewell, goodbye and thank you to all”. Well Said, thank you for gifting us your Moroccan Bazaar legacy we’ve been so lucky to enjoy for 37years, and here’s hoping we can find a new owner to take the reins and bring us a whole new world of Aladdin treasures for years to come.
