Tommy Myers eyeing off global Big Wave Glory

Firefighter, builder, Freshwater Boardriders President, father of two with a third on the way, and proud owner of the nation’s best bowl cut, Tommy “Bombie” Myers is heading to California. The local big wave Jedi – who’s never more at home than when knifing into Queenscliff Bombora monsters before blasting through B-line bus sized barrels – is in serious contention to win 2024/2025 Big Wave Challenge WAVE OF THE YEAR! He’s in the top 3, and will find out 13 September in Cali if he’s victorious! Go get ’em Tommy! The wave in question, his Easter Friday beast – as written up in July Tawny’s BSR and for which Caroline Faye won Pic of the month.

Shute Shield MVP also plays League on a Sunday!

Warringah Rats hooker Wes Thomas has claimed the 2025 Ken Catchpole Medal as the Shute Shield’s best player. The dynamic forward has had a stellar season for the Rats and is a key figure in their premiership charge. Thomas has all the hallmarks of a true professional and should be on the radar of Super Rugby and European scouts this off season. What makes this even more remarkable is Thomas regularly backs up his games for the Rats on a Saturday by playing Rugby League for Mona Vale on a Sunday.

It’s a big month for the Warringah Rats

The Warringah Rats enter this year’s Shute Shield finals series as one of the genuine title contenders. They finished the regular season in 2nd place on the premiership ladder, and, along with Eastern Suburbs, have been the most consistent side in the competition. The Rats are a very well-balanced outfit with a number of outstanding players across the park, dynamic ball carriers upfront, astute playmakers and a dangerous backline. Head Coach Josh Holmes was a key part of the Rats last premiership success on the field and that may prove invaluable in the mental preparation of his team. Further south and it’s back to the drawing board for the Manly Marlins who had a disappointing year in 10th place but will be lifted by the strong performances of their lower grades running out minor premiers in 2nd, 3rd & 4th grade, a mighty feat.

Manly Juniors – State Championship Run 2025

The future of rugby on the Northern Beaches is looking bright after a stellar showing from the Manly Juniors at this year’s State Championships. The young Marlins showcased impressive skill, teamwork, and resilience against the best junior squads from across the state. The 10s went through undefeated, the 11s won five from six and while the 12s had a more challenging weekend they hung tough & learnt many valuable lessons. Plenty of future Marlins in the making on the peninsula for sure.

Enjoy that?
