MWP Community Care’s newest initiative, Silver Surfers, made a splash at its debut session, held at Kiddie’s Corner, Palm Beach.

Despite the less-than-ideal weather, the event saw an incredible turnout, with over 20 enthusiastic participants braving the conditions to take part in this unique health and wellness offering for residents over 55.

An initiative dreamed up by Josh Kirkman from Surfers for Climate and guided by none other than 3 times World Bodyboarding Champion, Ben Player, and owner of the Manly and Palm Beach Surf School, Matt Grainger, the session was a hit! Participants learned about ocean health, built confidence in the surf, and had a fantastic time reconnecting with the beach in a safe and supportive environment.

Chloe Feris, Head of Operations and Communications at MWP Community Care, said the program was a natural progression to MWP’s wellness offering to older Australians.

“As we age, it’s common to lose confidence and develop a heightened sense of fear when tackling physical activities, especially those like surfing. Programs like Silver Surfers aim to combat these concerns by providing expert guidance and fostering a sense of community and social connection whilst lasting health benefits and endorphins kick in. 90% of life’s problems can be solved if you just add water. You never feel worse after having a swim at the beach!”

The session was followed by a delightful morning tea catered by Barbette’s Feast, giving participants the chance to relax and enjoy some well-earned refreshments. The Silver Surfers program will run regularly throughout summer.
