Michael Cordes celebrated his first year as German International School Sydney’s Principal in style, announcing a new era of sporting excellency at the Terrey Hills school, officially partnering with one of Europe’s most iconic and successful football clubs, Germany’s Borussia Dortmund (BVB). This collaboration marks a significant milestone in both institutions’ commitment to youth development, education, and football excellence.
“We are incredibly excited to bring Borussia Dortmund’s world-class football training to our students on the Northern Beaches,” said Michael. “This partnership aligns with our commitment to holistic education by combining academic excellence with quality athletic development, and will offer pathways for student-athletes to participate in exchange programs, to experience training at BVB’s headquarters in Dortmund, inclusive football development for boys and girls, nurturing talent at all skill levels, and training camps during school holidays, providing students with additional opportunities to enhance their skills and passion for the game.”
As part of this partnership, Borussia Dortmund will help develop a high-quality football program and support the first concept of a new football pitch at GISS, further solidifying the school’s commitment to fostering sports excellence. The highlight of this cooperation is the permanent placement of a BVB coordinator at GISS, who will lead and oversee the development of the football program.
“We are thrilled to partner with the German International School Sydney and contribute to the development of young footballers in Australia,” says Dr Suresh Letchmanan, Managing Director of BVB Asia Pacific. “This partnership aligns perfectly with our philosophy, and we are excited to be a part of shaping the future of football at GISS.”
