North Steyne Boardriders have won the 2025 RJ Thomas Solicitor Men’s Surftag finishing over 30 points clear of second place Long Reef with Queenscliff and Wollongong’s Scarborough Boardriders finishing in third and fourth position. North Steyne defended their Men’s Surftag Title scoring 81.71 in the fifty-minute final with WCT surfer George Pittar their best scoring 23.07.

With the event being postponed on Saturday due to a lack of swell and relocated from Queenscliff to South Curl Curl Beach on Sunday, the North Steyne team of Sol Gruending (9.07), Saxon Reber (11.37), Pittar (23.07), Axel-Rose Curotta (16.56) and Blake Levett (7.37) revelled in the large and powerful south swell that had kicked in overnight.

Contest Director Steve Harrison changed the tag team format on the day allowing the first two surfers from each team to start in the water, allowing each competitor more time to paddle out in the chunky conditions.

The North Steyne team had to overcome a fast start from neighbouring club Queenscliff with Winter Vincent posting the Creatures of Leisure Highest Score in the Final – 23.33 that included an 8.00-point Powerwave (worth double points). Kobi Clements was a standout all day for Long Reef with Fin McLaren Scarborough’s best.

North Steyne’s team captain Blake Levett was pumped on the back-to-back win, “We haven’t done good in these events for a while until last year”, Levett said. “Stoked for the boys and it’s weird being the old guy in the team now with all these young fellas.”

Both Semi Finals went down to the last waves ridden with Bondi Boardriders narrowly missing out on a finals berth in Semi Final No.1 by 1.34 points with Dee Why Surfing Fraternity missing out in Semi Final No.2 by 0.44.
