Dr Richard Curran, MBBS (USyd), FRACS, is an experienced General and Laparoscopic Surgeon. Dr Curran has a large practice in surgery for gallstone disease ie laparoscopic cholecystectomy, for both emergency and elective patients.

A graduate of the University of Sydney, Dr Curran completed his advanced surgical training on the NSW Western rotation and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2008. He is currently a Consultant General Surgeon at Westmead Hospital and Blacktown & Mt Druitt Hospitals, with a clinical focus on laparoscopic general surgery. Dr Curran operates privately at Westmead Private, Norwest Private, and now also consults at Delmar Private Hospital in Dee Why.

Dr Curran’s broad surgical background allows him to manage a wide range of general surgical conditions, with an emphasis on minimally invasive techniques where appropriate. His approach is grounded in careful assessment, clear communication, and evidence-based decision-making, ensuring patients are well informed and supported throughout their care.

Consulting locally at South Steyne Medical Centre enables patients to access specialist expertise in a familiar and convenient setting, with the added benefit of integrated general practice support.

Outside of the operating theatre, Dr Curran is an enthusiastic cyclist and enjoys spending time on two wheels. Keep an out for him cycling around North Head.

Referrals can be organised via South Steyne Medical Centre reception, making access to specialist surgical consultation straightforward for patients and referring GPs.
