The school student surfing community has dirty water to thank for the March postponement of the 2026 Junkyard All Schools Surftag, setting the stage to reconvene at Queenscliff in early May and be treated by what Surftag Contest Director Steve Harrison has called: “The best surf conditions for a contest I’ve seen in 25 years, classic 4-5 foot offshore waves all day for two days.”
Narrabeen Sports High won the Junior Boys Division on Tuesday with Eli Clarke revelling in the solid conditions posting a 9.50 PowerWave in the Final. Narrabeen finished ahead of NBSC Balgowlah Boys with St Lukes Grammar finishing third and St Paul’s Manly fourth.
The Narrabeen Sports High team of Taj Ameudo (12.57), Eli Clarke (25.67), Finn O’Rourke (6.3), Xavier Caunt (8.63) and Ryder Northey (3.84) held off a strong finish from the Balgowlah Boys team with twins Benson and Jai Wineera pushing the Narrabeen team to the very last wave.

The large and powerful conditions continued for the Girls Division Final with Mila Grainger (21.84) the standout for St Luke’s and Jesse Silver (22.01) the highest scorer for Mackellar. St Luke’s finished the Final on top with Grainger posting a 9.67 PowerWave, their winning team consisting of Olive Stubbs (3.33), Lexie Tague (2.07), Holly Pinnuck (3.23), Piper O’Sullivan (3.07) and Mila Grainger.

This year marked the inaugural Primary Schools Division. Eleven teams lined up and battled multiple rounds before Avalon Public School absolutely dominated the Final. Maverick Macgugan (23.16) and Nixon Carroll (8.67) both locked in big scores to put Avalon twenty points clear of their rivals. Oli Van Takach (4.60), Ruby Buchan (1.10) and Ace Roberts (1.83) added to the massive Avalon total of 43.36. Neighbouring Public School Newport finished in second position with Harbord Public A and Harbord Public C teams finishing third and fourth.
